Barbourville, Ky. – Wilma “Jean” Hopper, formerly of Barbourville, KY passed away on Tuesday, June 15, 2021, in Southport, NC, at the age of 89.
Jean was born in Dewitt, Kentucky on March 27, 1932. She was the daughter of the late Tressie Merritt Bowling and Dink Bowling of Dewitt, Kentucky. Preceding her in death were, her parents, her husband, Donald Maurice Hopper formerly of Barbourville, KY; her brothers, Burl Bowling of Nicholasville, KY, and Virgil Lee “Pete” Bowling (Gladys) of Norton, VA, and her sister, Wanda Ann Freeman (Bill) of Williamsburg, KY.
She is survived by: her daughter, Teresa “Terry” Thompson and husband, John of Southport, NC; two grandchildren, Carla Renee Henry of Simpsonville, SC and Gregory Logan Thompson of Columbia, SC; two great grandchildren, Stella Renee Vetoe and Maximus Henry Vetoe of Simpsonville, SC; her brother, Curtis E. Bowling (Thelma) of Brandon, FL; sisters-in-law, Jean Hopper Wooton (Alvis) of Hudsonville, MI and Zelma Bowling of Nicholasville, KY; and brother-in law, Lewis B. Hopper (Marcia) of Barbourville, KY, and many nieces and nephews.
Jean lived a full life and loved her family and friends. She enjoyed traveling and living in many different locations from Pennsylvania to Florida, and Las Vegas to South Africa. At Jean’s request, no funeral service will be held; her ashes will be interred next to her husband at a private, family gathering in The Barbourville City Cemetery.
