Obituary for Wilma Jean Hinkle Kuhn (1951-2023)

Mrs. Wilma Jean Hinkle Kuhn, 72, of Barbourville, passed away Sunday afternoon, November 26, 2023 at the St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington.  She was the daughter of the late James “Jim” Thomas and Christine Allen Hinkle born on October 2, 1951 in Barbourville.

Wilma was a homemaker, former DES Director and teacher’s aide at Barbourville City Schools and was a member of the First United Methodist Church.  She enjoyed taking care of her fur babies and her nieces and nephews.

On August 23, 2014, she united in marriage with Dan Kuhn.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her late husband, Shawney King; a niece, Shavon Mills; two brothers-in-law, Charles Garland and Byon McWilliams; grandparents, Martha Hyden and James Abe Hinkle and Fannie Payne and Charlie Allen and her precious pets, Chel, C.C., Harley, Hailey, Puddle, Pea and Bandit.

Those left behind to mourn her passing include her loving husband, Dan Kuhn of Corbin; siblings, Uneeda McWilliams, Martha Garland, Jerry Smith and husband, Kenneth, Vivian Messer and husband, Johnny, Eva Haban and husband, Joe, Jimmy Hinkle and wife, Sandy, all of Barbourville and Tom Hinkle of Corbin; 17 nieces and nephews; 38 great nieces and nephews; seven great-great nieces and nephews; a step-daughter, Leighann Kuhn; two step-granddaughters, Rebecca June Smith and Erin Stephanie Begley; two special friends, Mayme Wallace and Joann Coscia; among other loved ones and dear friends.

Her funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Sunday, December 3 at 2 P.M. with Rev. Samuel Lawson and Dennis Messer officiating.  She will be laid to rest in the Barbourville Cemetery.

Casket bearers will be Alex Peyton, Charles Garland, Daniel Lee, Joseph Haban, Jimmy Hinkle and Jeremy Hinkle.  Serving as honorary bearers will be her other nieces and nephews.

Friends may visit at the funeral home Saturday between 6 and 9 P.M. and Sunday prior to the funeral hour.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Knox Funeral Home.
