Mrs. Wanda Katherine Miller, 93, of New Tazewell, TN, passed away Friday afternoon, March 5, 2021 at the Claiborne Medical Center. She was the daughter of the late Earnest and Lavicie Hubbard Walton born on September 12, 1927 at Artemus.
After finishing college, Katherine taught school and later worked at Warner’s. In time, she and her husband would own and operate Miller’s Cash Store. She was a long-time member of the Artemus Christian Church and loved to sew and make quilt tops to give to family, to shop and go to yard sales. She was dearly loved by her family and enjoyed having them close to her.
On December 27, 1947, she united in marriage with Laymon Miller and to this union a son was born.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years, Laymon Miller; three sisters, Gertrude Mills Jackson, Grace Barnett and Ruby Alford and three brothers, Joe, M. D. and Dan “Dewattie” Walton.
Survivors include her loving son, Laymon Kent Miller and wife, Bernice, of New Tazewell, TN; a sister, Daisy Messer of Barbourville; beloved grandchildren, Durinda Kay Miller Campbell and husband, Jason, of Knoxville, TN and Jason Kent Miller and wife, Gwen, of Melbourne, FL; five great grandchildren, Devin Alexander Campbell, who was the apple of her eye, Halle Isabella Campbell, Laymon Bradley Miller, Mary Grace Miller and Abby Reece Miller; a special niece, Jan Never of Artemus; among other loved ones and dear friends.
Her funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Tuesday, March 9 at 2 P.M. with Rev. Gary King officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Barbourville Cemetery.
Casket bearers will be Charlie Miller, Rodney Messer, Devin Campbell, Jason Campbell, Douglas Taylor and Tye Walton.
The family wishes to extend their sincere appreciation to the Claiborne Medical Center, Dr. Ochoa, Nurse Bradley Gilbert and Amedisys Home Health Care for the loving care and concern shown to Katherine and her family.
Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday after 12 Noon until the funeral hour.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Knox Funeral Home.
