Mr. Walter William “Bill” Corey was born on July 29, 1933 to the late Gilbert and Otie Hopper Corey and passed away in the Barbourville ARH Hospital on Friday evening, March 6, 2020.
Bill was the husband of Axie Katherine Hammons Corey and father to Mike Corey and wife, Melissa, Bob Corey and wife, Teresa, and Jeff Corey and wife, Donna. He was the grandfather of April Corey Payne, Micah Corey and wife, Samantha, Sawyer Corey and wife, Kylee, and Jayci Beth Corey. He was also the great-grandfather of Corey Jo and Noah Bryce Payne and Abby Kate Corey who was born on his birthday and a special neighbor he thought of as a grandchild, Conner Brown.
Bill was a friend to and loved by all who knew him, especially his church family and the entire staff of Barbourville ARH Hospital. He was called “Pap” by many in the community.
Bill was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Sydni Elizabeth Kathyren Corey and a great-granddaughter, Reese Noelle Payne. He was also preceded in death by brothers, Harry and Opal Corey, Grover Corey and Arnold Corey and sisters, Geneva Corey and Myrtle Corey Hammons.
His funeral service will be conducted at the Turkey Creek Baptist Church Thursday, March 12 at 2 P.M. with Rev. Eli Broughton, Rev. William R. “Man” Cobb and Rev. Cleo Goodlett officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Barbourville Cemetery with military funeral honors.
Casket bearers will be his family.
Friends may call at the Knox Funeral Home Wednesday between 4 and 9 P.M. and at the church Thursday after 11 A.M. until the funeral hour.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Knox Funeral Home.
