Mrs. Vivian Smith, age 90 of Barbourville, Kentucky departed this life on Thursday, January 11, 2024 at her home with her family by her side. She was born on December 7, 1933 in Knox County the daughter of Mitchell Mills and Mary (Newman) Townsley. She was the widow of Denver Smith. Vivian was a member of the Christian Life Fellowship and had worked at Union College for over 40 years in the cafeteria and in housekeeping.
Vivian is preceded in death by her husband Denver Smith, her parents Mitchell Mills and Mary Townsley, three brothers, Edward Mills, Frank Townsley and Lloyd Townsley, one sister, Barbara Hinkle, a sister-in-law, Brenda Mills and a brother-in-law, Ernest Hinkle.
Those left behind to mourn her passing, her three children, James Patrick Smith of Boone Height, Lisa Ann Callebs and husband John of Hinkle and Gina Bennett and husband Mark of Gray, five grandchildren, Susie Smith, Ashley Carter, James Aaron Smith, Holli Ellis and Trever Bennett, six great grandchildren, Makenzie Stewart, Brystol Wright, Maddix Carter, Hunter Hensley, Bentlie Carter and Journey Ellis, two sisters-in-law, Lorraine Townsley and Doris Townsley. She also leaves behind a special caregiver, Ashley Eversole, her Union College family and friends who dearly loved her along with many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Vivian will be conducted in the Hampton Funeral Home Chapel on Sunday, January 14, at 12:30 p.m. with Rev. Tommy Frazier and Rev. Tommy Teague officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Henry Mills Cemetery on Road Fork. Pallbearers will be family and friends and Honorary pallbearers will be staff of Bluegrass Care Navigators and Professional Home Health. Hampton Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements.
Friends will be received at the funeral home on Saturday evening from 6:30 until 9:00 p.m. and on Sunday prior to the service at 12:30.
