Mr. Tommy Joe Engle, 76, of Barbourville, passed away Wednesday afternoon, October 30, 2019 at his home. He was the son of the late Raymond and Thelma Hubbs Engle born on April 1, 1943 in Knox County.
Tommy was a local businessman and a member of the Beacon Baptist Church. He was an avid fisherman and a UK basketball fan. He faithfully served in the Kentucky Army National Guard.
On November 22, 1984, he united in marriage with Betty Gambrel.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jimmy “Bo” Engle and a grandson, Steven Rose Jr.
Survivors include his loving wife, Betty Engle of Barbourville; three children, Rickey Engle of Barbourville, Lisa Mitchell and husband, Fred, of Corbin and JoBeth Taylor and fiancé, Tommy Lanham Jr. of Barbourville; three sisters, Carolyn Engle and Betty Kulisek both of Barbourville and Geneva Gray; four brothers, Eddie Engle, Larry Engle, Tim Engle and Bill Engle all of Barbourville; nine grandchildren, Alex, Kayla, Raymond, Kevin, Tori, Chris, Roman Makinley and Tripp; several great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; among other loved ones and dear friends.
His funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Saturday, November 2 at 1 P.M. with Rev. Dennis Chesnut officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Calvary Cemetery.
Casket bearers will be Raymond Engle, Kevin Engle, Roman Mitchell, Chris Rose, Justin Trent and Mike Kulisek. Honorary bearers will be James Miles, Arnold Brown, Jimmy Bargo, Laney Carter and Inky Davis.
Friends may call at the funeral home Friday between 6 and 9 P.M. and Saturday prior to the funeral hour.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Knox Funeral Home.
