Obituary for Toledo Mills Alford (1924-2021)

Mrs. Toledo Mills Alford, 96, of Artemus, passed away Sunday evening, July 11, 2021 at the Christian Health Center in Corbin.  She was the daughter of the late Columbus and Axie Jordan Mills born on December 24, 1924 at Artemus.

Toby was a homemaker and a member of the Artemus First Baptist Church, a former member of the Tuesday Club, the Knox County Homemakers Club and the Knox County Hospital Auxiliary.  In earlier years, she enjoyed sewing, quilting and reading.

On December 27, 1941, she united in marriage with George Alford two children were born.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband, George; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert Clinton Alford and Patricia; a beloved granddaughter, Kathy Works; two sisters, Mable Turner and husband, Claude, and Mary Marsee and four brothers, Ernest Mills, Robert P. Mills and wife, Jean, George F. Mills and wife, Opal, and Columbus Mills Jr.

Survivors include a son, Larry Alford and wife, Kathryn, of Olympia,
WA; two sisters-in-law, Patricia Mills of Artemus and Jewell Mills of Sanford, FL; several nieces and nephews; six grandchildren, Kathleen Blanchard and husband, John, Denise Louque and husband, Raymond, Douglas Alford and wife, Emily, Robin Wells, Tobie Davis and Tammy Wells; two step-grandchildren, Amanda Pille and Bethany Pille; 21 great grandchildren and 29 great-great grandchildren; among other loved ones and dear friends.

Her funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Wednesday, July 21 at 11 A.M. with Rev. Steve Mayle officiating.  She will be laid to rest in the Barbourville Cemetery.

Casket bearers will be family and friends.  Honorary bearers will be members of the Artemus First Baptist Church and all friends and neighbors.

The family would like to offer their sincere appreciation to the staff of the Christian Health Center and Bluegrass Hospice Care for all they did during her illness.

Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday between 6 and 8 and Wednesday prior to the funeral hour.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Knox Funeral Home.
