Obituary for Thelma Hafer Gibson (1937-2020)

Mrs. Thelma Hafer Gibson, 82, of Barbourville, passed away Wednesday afternoon, March 11, 2020 at St. Joseph London.  She was the daughter of the late Louis and Gracie Hendrix Hafer born on June 30, 1937 at Grants Lick.

Thelma was the former owner and operator of Thelma’s Place and the D & W Cafeteria and of the Baptist faith.  She enjoyed antique cars, working jigsaw puzzles, collecting cookie jars and later in life enjoyed watching television.

On June 25, 1955, she united in marriage with Theodore “Ted” Gibson and to this union three children were born.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Louis Gibson; three sisters, Mae Hafer, Joyce Bruner and Sally Freidly and three brothers, John L. Hafer, Harold Paul Hafer and Louis Hafer Jr.

Survivors include her children, Kathy Pickard and husband, Charles, of Barbourville and Alex Gibson and wife, Jennifer, of Madison, AL; four sisters, Betty Morgan of Sharonville, OH, Martha Lyons of Florence, Josephine of Cincinnati, OH and Pauline Lamacutor of Latonia; a brother, Terry Hafer and wife, Norma, of California, KY; five grandchildren, Christopher Pickard and wife, Sarah, Stephanie Alexander and husband, Robert, Erica Ganoe and husband, Dustin, Tiffani Warden and husband, Chase and Alexis Gibson; nine great grandchildren, Sophie, Theodore, Owen, Penelope, Adaline, Alexia, Tennison, Henry and Vivienne; among other loved ones and dear friends.

Her funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Wednesday, March 18 at 12 Noon with Bro. Jeff Christmas officiating.  She will be laid to rest in the Barbourville Cemetery.

Casket bearers will be Christopher Pickard, Chase Warden, Robert Alexander, Dustin Ganoe, Pete Miller, Terry Woolum and Norman Mullins.

Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday between 6 and 9 P.M. and Wednesday prior to the funeral hour.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Knox Funeral Home.
