Barbourville, Ky. – Terry Douglas Hammons, Sr., 80, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 6:15 am November 28, 2021 at his residence in Mount Vernon. He was born March 29, 1941 in Barbourville, Kentucky to the late Evey Esley Hammons, Jr. and Beulah (Frost) Hammons. Terry married Anna Joyce (Jones) Hammons on April 19, 1960 in Wise, Virginia. They were blessed with fifty-three years of marriage before she preceded him in death on December 31, 2013.
In addition to his parents, and his beloved wife, three brothers, Rod, Johnny, and Jack Hammons, preceded Terry in death. He is survived by sons, Chad Hammons of Chesterfield, Missouri, Terry Hammons of Mt. Vernon, Illinois; daughters, Sherry Johnson and husband Chris and Dana Beck both of Mt. Vernon, Illinois; grandchildren, Jake Johnson of Mt. Vernon, Illinois, Phillip Hamerski and wife Veronica of Chicago, Illinois, Trevor Hammons of Greenfield, Indiana, Molly McVeigh and partner Maddie McVeigh of St. Louis, Missouri, Holden Johnson, Dalton Beck, and Savannah Beck of Cherry Hill, New Jersey; great-granddaughter, McKinley Johnson of Mt. Vernon, Illinois; sister, Mildred Higgins and husband Russ of Louisville, Kentucky; and several nieces and nephews.
Terry worked 41 years as a Hoist Engineer in the coal mine in Sesser, Illinois and was a proud member of United Mine Workers of America.
