Steve L. Mayer, age 59, of Corbin, KY, passed away on Monday, October 17, 2022, at Baptist Health Corbin.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Foster and Barbara Johnson.
Steve is survived by his loving wife of 23 years, Christine Mayer, four children, Steven (Megan), Scott (Mary), Savannah, and Samuel, two grandchildren, Eden and Maggie, siblings, Dennis (Sabine), LeeAnn, and Charlie (Eddie), father and mother-in-law, Lieutenant Col. Arley and Robin Longworth, brother and sister-in-law, SFC (retired) Greg and Michelle Burton, nieces and nephews, Kirbi Kersey (Jason), Kody Kersey (Kayla), Noah Mayer, Eva Smith, Ana Elle Mayer, Macy Garcia, Analia Mayer, Nailah Mayer, Shelby (Austin) Russo, and Michael Burton (Grace).
In addition to family, he leaves behind a special brotherhood at West Knox Volunteer Fire Department, where he was a member since 1990, and held the position of Deputy Chief. Steve was also employed by Wendy’s for 42 years and held the position as District Manager. Steve went beyond his normal duties as a fireman and manager. Those he served alongside and worked with became family to him, and he cherished those special relationships. He was also a member of Grace On The Hill Community Church. Steve and Christine had a very special small group from church, which became lifelong friends that they could depend on in any situation through all seasons of life.
Visitation will be held from 11:00-2:00pm on Thursday, October 20, 2022, at Grace On The Hill Community Church, where his funeral service will follow at 2:00pm with Rev. Dr. Scott Wilson and Gus Clouse officiating.
Following the service, he will be laid to rest at Worley Cemetery in Corbin, KY.
