Steelie Scalf Jr. age 61, of Gray, Kentucky, passed away on Friday February 2, 2024, at his home in Gray.
Born in Paintsville, Kentucky, he was a son of the late Steelie S. Scalf and Sallie Elsie Brown Scalf. Steelie was a retired mechanic with Overnite Transportation.
Steelie was a Kentucky Colonel and former Constable in the first district of Knox County. A Christian man, he was both a Baptist and Pentecostal. Steelie loved his family and adored his grandchildren. Holidays were celebrated times with family and friends, where he was always willing to cookout. Christmas and the Fourth of July were his favorites. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, and trading.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Floyd and Rosa Brown; paternal grandparents, Victor and Ollie Scalf; son in law, Ronnie Jordan; brothers, Glen Scalf and Michael Scalf; sisters, Anna Lisa Scalf and Maxine Campbell; and by his foster mom, Wilma Engle Elliott.
Steelie is survived by his wife, Sherri Scalf; daughter, Amber Jordan; sons, Kyle Smith and Nick Smith all of Gray; grandchildren, Trey, Aubrey, Conor, Adleigh, and Ellie; brothers, Leonard Ray Messer (Jeannie) of Kirbyville, TX, and Dennis Pete Baker of Dewitt, KY; sisters, Irene Robertson (Dallas) of Corbin, Susie Helton (James) Dewitt, KY, and Rebecca Stilwell (Charles) of Spring, TX; former son in law and friend, Mike Helton; and by many nieces, nephews, and friends including good friend, Jim Britton.
Visitation for Steelie Scalf will be held on Monday February 5, 2024, from 6-8pm at the Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home. Visitation will also be held on Tuesday February 6th from 12noon until the time of his funeral service at 1pm at the Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home.
Burial will follow in the Candle Ridge Cemetery in Gray, Kentucky. Serving as pall bearers will be Nick Smith, Kyle Smith, Trey Helton, Mike Helton, Hayden McKeehan, and Dennis Baker. Honorary pall bearers will be Conor Jordan, James Helton, Michael Myers, Leonard Ray Messer, Jessie Messer, and Leonard Messer.
