Flat Lick, Ky. – Silas, “Sie” B. Gambrel, age 83, passed away peacefully, Monday, November 25, 2019. Sie was the son of the late Minnie Mills Gambrel and Mckinnley Gambrel, happily born to them on October 8, 1936 in Pineville, Ky. Sie lived most of his life in Flat Lick. He married Stella Brock Gambrel on March 10, 1956 and to this union three children were born: Judy (Bargo), Cathy (Beverly) and Bobby (Gambrel). Sie and Stella were lovingly married for 59 years.
Sie worked for many years as a Bridge Superintendent for both Saltsman Construction and Elmo Greer and Sons. His family noted that many of the bridges one passes along the I-75 corridor were supervised, when built, by Sie. In his free time, Sie very much enjoyed hunting, fishing, and bee keeping. He was also a plowboy. Sie was a devout christian man, serving as a deacon for over 40 years. Most recently, Sie attended and was deacon at the Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church in Bailey Switch. Sie was known to always be smiling. He was an optimist. When thinking about the future, Sie sometimes said, “When I leave here, I’m not going away – I’m just changing climates”.
Sie was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife, and two dear brothers: Olene Gambrel and Hershel Gambrel.
Left to mourn Sie’s passing are his daughters: Judy Bargo (Rev. James) and Cathy Beverly (Doug) of Gray and his son: Bobby Ray Gambrel (Donna) of Possum Hollow, Flat Lick. Also left to mourn his passing are Sie’s sisters: Imogene Cassidy of Knoxville, Tn. and Evelyn Jackson of Charlottesville, Va; Sie’s brothers: Jack Gambrel (Joyce) of Danville and Paul Gambrel (Cordie) of Possum Hollow, Flat Lick. Six grandchildren survive Sie: Jessica (David) Broughton, Jeremy (Nina) Gambrel, Jennifer (Brandon) Jackson, Jarrod Gambrel, Rebecca Beverly, and Silas Bargo (finance Kayla Mills). Sie left behind also eight dear great-grandchildren, who will miss him dearly, as well as many other cherished relatives and friends.
