Obituary for Sherrie Denise Messer (1963-2024)

Mrs. Sherrie Denise Messer, 61, of Flat Lick, passed away Sunday evening, July 21, 2024 at the Barbourville ARH Hospital.  She was the daughter of the late Arnold and Litha Davis Smith born on March 23, 1963 in Barbourville.

Sherrie was a homemaker and a member of the Roadside Baptist Church.  She found joy in listening to classical music, taking walks and watching Andy Griffith.  She most enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

On August 16, 1979, she united in marriage with Clifford Messer and to this union three children were born.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Chelsea Ann and grandparents, F. M. Davis Jr. and Virgie Messer Davis.

Survivors include her loving husband, Clifford Messer of Flat Lick; her dearly loved children, Ryan Messer of Talladega, AL, Nathaniel Messer and Natasha Gray both of Barbourville; a sister, Rhonda Jackson of Corbin; treasured grandchildren, Dylan Gray, Blake Gray, Preston Messer, Makenzie Messer, Madison Messer, Milee Messer, Isaiah Messer, Grace Messer, Rhett Messer and Rose Messer; a great grandson, Roman Messer; and the forthcoming arrival of a great granddaughter, Adalynn Gray; among other loved ones and dear friends.

Her funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Thursday, July 25 at 6 P.M. with Rev. Tip Smith officiating.  She will be laid to rest in the Davis Cemetery at Acorn Fork.

Casket bearers will be Dylan Gray, Blake Gray, Preston Messer, Isaiah Messer, Matthew Merritt and Jacob Jackson.  Serving as honorary bearers will be her uncles, M. G. Davis, Tony Merritt and Hobert Davis.

Friends may visit at the funeral home Thursday after 5 P.M. until the funeral hour.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Knox Funeral Home.
