Semone (Jackson) Landon passed away Saturday, March 10th, 2024, in the loving arms of her daughter, Dee Hembree Keating and son-in-law, Craig Keating at Elizabeth Scott Communities in Maumee, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by both parents, her brothers, Michael Jackson and Dickie Jackson and her husband of twenty-eight years, Peter Landon (Ontario Canada). She is survived by her only daughter, Dolores (Dee) Hembree Keating and son in law, Craig Keating of Toledo, Ohio, grandson Jermey Johnson of Harrison Township, Michigan, great granddaughters, Alyce Semone Johnson and Chloe Aaron Johnson and sister Joyce Catoe of Flat Lick, Kentucky and many nieces and nephews.
Semone was born to Oscar Jackson and Marie Mills in Knox County, Kentucky but resided on Greasy Creek in Bell County Kentucky until the age of eighteen and then moved to Columbus Indiana where she lived about five years, then moved with her brothers and sister to Detroit, Michigan where she started working at the Holiday Inn near the original Detroit Tiger Stadium in Detroit. Semone loved her Tigers Baseball and was a HUGE Tigers fan. The highlight was when she got to meet the Tigers players when they stayed at the Holiday Inn during the 1968 World Series. She always told stories of all the players that would come in and ask for her section because they all loved her so much. That Holiday Inn closed, and she moved to the Holiday Inn in Hazel Park Michigan and moved from Detroit to Roseville, Michigan where she had some amazing friends and neighbors who helped each other out all the time.
Semone met her husband Pete at the Holiday Inn in Hazel Park, even though she swore she would never date a customer, she broke her own rules when she met Pete and they were married April 29, 1989. She retired from Holiday Inn after thirty-five years and the hard work of being a waitress and bartender took a toll on her body many years later. Peter and Semone moved to Findlay, Ohio, where they lived for fifteen years before moving to Toledo to be closer to her daughter and son-in-law who assisted with her care. She moved in with her daughter and amazing son-in-law after Peter died in 2017. Semone leaves a big empty hole in many hearts and will never be forgotten.
A celebration of life and a final burial for Semone and Peter will be held on Saturday, June 22, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at the Binghamtown Cemetery in Flat Lick, Kentucky. Hampton Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
