Obituary for Sally Townsley (1944-2024)

Mrs. Sally Townsley, 79, of Stinking Creek, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, September 14, 2024. She was the daughter of the late Chester and Myrtle Grubb Bright, born to them on October 1, 1944 in Barnyard, Kentucky.  She united in marriage to Martin Kenneth “K” Townsley on June 10, 1961 and to this union, four children were born.

Sally was a gifted quilter who made meticulous quilts without the use of a sewing machine. Her hands made many quilts, including her Postage Stamp quilt and her Around the World quilt, and she gave many of her quilts as gifts of love to her family members. She was also an avid reader, having read hundreds of books. She also loved tending her flowers and spending time with her family. Sally loved her family and had an unwavering faith in the Lord.

Along with her parents, Sally was preceded in death by her husband, Martin K. Townsley and brothers, Estel Bright, B.P. Bright, Dennis Bright, George Bright and Donald Bright.

Sally is survived by her loving children, Tonny Townsley and wife, Kathy, Joyce Mills and husband, Herman, Selina Bruner and husband, William, and Annita Lawson and husband, Earl; her grandchildren, who she loved dearly, Kasey Townsley and wife, Nikki, Tonya Philpot and husband, Sawyer, Kevin Mills, Joshua Mills and wife, Ashley, Jonathan Mills,  Kelli Bingham and husband, Terry, Robin Bruner, Jason Bruner, Nathaniel Lawson and Daniel Lawson; several great-grandchildren and a host of many others to cherish her memory.

A graveside service to honor Sally’s life will be held in the Henry Mills Cemetery Wednesday, September 18 at 12 Noon with her sons-in-law officiating.

Her grandsons will honorably serve as casket bearers.

Friends may visit at the funeral home Tuesday evening between 6 and 8 P.M. and at the cemetery Wednesday at 12 noon.

And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.  Revelation 21:4
