Obituary for Ruth E. Campbell (1932-2023)

Mrs. Ruth E. Campbell, 90, of Corbin, the widow of Allen Campbell, passed away Wednesday evening, April 26, 2023 at the Hospice of Lake Cumberland Jean Waddle Care Center in Somerset. She was the daughter of the late Charlie and Sallie Barnett Monhollen born on July 24, 1932 in Knox County.

Ruth was a homemaker and a member of the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church. In her spare time, she enjoyed raising a beautiful garden of tomatoes, green beans, corn and cucumbers. She loved tending to her flowers and cheering on the Kentucky Wildcats basketball team. Most of all, she loved time spent with her family and friends.

On January 13, 1950 she united in marriage with Allen Campbell and to this union three children were born.

In addition to her parents and husband, Allen Campbell, she is preceded in death by her sisters, Eleanor Rogers, Alice Miller and Lola Monhollen.

She is survived by her three children, Donna Campbell and special friend, Garrett “Hoot” Gibson and Mike Campbell and wife, Kathy, all of Corbin and Randall Campbell and wife, Sharon, of Barbourville; cherished grandchildren, Jennifer Campbell, Chelsea Harvey and husband, Brent, Jack Champlin, Stephanie Champlin, Josh Champlin and wife, Angela, Joshua Crabtree, Ashleigh Hubbard and fiancé, Jordan and Abbey Partin; 11 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; among other loved ones and dear friends.

Her funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Sunday, April 30, 2023 at 2 P.M. with Rev. James Allen officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Rest Haven Cemetery.

Casket bearers will be family and friends.

Friends may visit at the funeral home Saturday after 6 P.M. until 8 P.M. and on Sunday prior to the funeral hour.

The family would like to suggest contributions to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Ruth’s memory.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Knox Funeral Home.
