Mrs. Ruth Ann Hill, 90, of Barbourville, passed away Tuesday afternoon, July 9, 2024 at the Barbourville Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was the daughter of the late Lee and Luna Phelps born March 13, 1934 in Somerset.
Ruth was the former manager of R.H. Hobbs until their closing. On September 21, 1967, she became a member of the First Baptist Church of Barbourville where she faithfully served in many roles. In years passed, she was the Sunday School director, church hostess and a member of the WMU. In later years, she worked in the church office and was the nursery coordinator. She was also secretary of the Springs Country Club for over 20 years and enjoyed cooking, canning and bowling.
On April 19, 1952 she united in marriage with Charlie Hill and to this union a son was born.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Charlie; brothers, George and Floyd Phelps and sisters, Fernell Phelps, Maxine Hall, Jaunita Hall, Irene Beasley and Wanda Sears.
Survivors include her children, Charles “Chuck” Hill and wife Karen, of Barbourville, Allison Phelps Hilbert of Somerset and Col. Allen Phelps of Omaha, NE; sisters, Geneva Colyer of Zanesville, OH and Lois Allen of Louisville; cherished grandchildren, Sarah Clouse, Robbie Hill, Andrew Seth Hill, Reese Hill, Charlie Hilbert and Callie Hilbert; great-grandchildren, Brayden Clouse, Emma Clouse, Charles Robert Hill, Rylee Hill, Reed Hill and Bo Miner Hill; among other relatives and dear friends.
Her funeral service will be conducted at the First Baptist Church of Barbourville Monday, July 22, at 1 P.M. with Rev. Shane Nickell officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Barbourville Cemetery.
Friends may visit at the church Monday, July 22 after 11 A.M. until the funeral hour.
