Barbourville, Ky. – Ruby Garnett Smith, age 75, of Girdler, Kentucky, passed away February 13, 2024. Ruby was the daughter of James Miller and Anna Elliott Miller born to them May 13, 1948, in Himyar, Kentucky.
Ruby held a bachelor’s degree in business from Union College. She worked many years for Commercial Bank as a Loan Officer before retiring. Ruby was a dedicated member of the Barbourville Church of God and loved to read the Bible. She also enjoyed flowers and gardening.Her greatest joy in life though was caring for and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Left behind to mourn her passing is her husband, John Smith; sons John Nelson Smith, Jr. (Samantha) and Eric Smith (Cindy); daughters Melissa Owen Swafford (Rodney), Anna Paulette Beard (Greg), and Jeannie Smith; brothers Houston Miller (Darlene), James Miller (Beth); and sister Juanita Mahan. Sixteen grandchildren, Allison Lebron (Alex), Sarah Garrison (Andrew), Ryleigh Swafford, Jayme Swafford, Logan Jackson (Brittany), Devin Jackson, Bailee Beard, Landen Beard, Jaxon Smith, Jase Smith, Erica Daniels (Jordan), Brady Smith, Holly Smith, James Smith, Jeffrey Smith, and Cami Smith; and three great grandchildren, Mila Hope Jackson, Lennon Sunday Jackson, and Miller Jude Garrison, also survive Ruby and will miss her dearly. In addition to her parents, James and Anna Miller, Ruby was preceded in death by her brother Jerry Miller and his wife Sherry Miller.
The Smith family will receive friends at Hopper Funeral Home, Sunday, February 18, 2024, from 12:00 PM until the funeral hour of 2:00 PM. Reverend Tommy Frazier will officiate. Interment will follow the funeral service in the Henry Mills Cemetery, Knox County, Kentucky. Casket Bearers are Terry Hensley, Jay Miller, Shannon Miller, Jake Miller, Josh Smith, Shawn Smith, and Josh Miller.
