Mr. Roy Sowders, Jr. age 81 of Barbourville, Kentucky departed this life on Monday, August 7, 2023 at his home. He was born in Barbourville on November 20, 1941 the son of Roy and Rosa (Merida) Sowders. On May 14, 1966 he united in marriage with Vickie Brown. He was a member of the Artemus Christian Church and he loved fishing and hunting and working on anything outside.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Rosa Sowders, four brothers, W.R. Sowders, Richard Sowders, J.D. Sowders and B.P. Sowders and one sister, Juanita Smith.
He is survived by his loving wife of fifty-seven years, Vickie Sowders, three special nephews, Jamie Boles, Sean Boles and Scott Nelson, two special great nieces, Hallie Boles and Jacey Boles, a special great nephew, Ethan Boles, and a special friend, Rodney Anderson. He also leaves behind many other relatives and friends to mourn his passing.
Funeral services for Mr. Sowders will be conducted in the Hampton Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, August 9, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Jesse Martin officiating. Pallbearers will be family and friends. He will be laid to rest in the Barbourville Cemetery. Hampton Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 12:00 noon until the hour of service at 2:00 p.m.
