Rod Neil Carter, Jr., 54, of Woodbine, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, June 13, 2024. Born January 3, 1970, he was the son of the late Rod Neil Carter, Sr., and Betty Jean English Carter.
In addition to his father and mother, Rod was preceded in death by his brother, Tod Carter.
He leaves behind his beloved family: his loving wife of nearly 24 years, Leslie Carter; four children: Brooklyn Carter, Kristen Carter, Brandon Troutman and wife Amanda, and Amanda Reid and husband Dwight, all of Woodbine; three grandchildren: Mason Smith, Aubrey Troutman, and Baylor Troutman; three brothers: Vernon Swords and wife Janie of Barbourville, Danny Swords (Linda) of Portsmouth, Ohio, and Willard Swords of Portsmouth, Ohio; special aunt, Janis “Sis” Walters; long-time friends and race partner, Kenny and Tammy Young, who loved and supported him dearly over the course of many decades. He is also survived by a beloved group of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and friends, along with his fur baby, Charlee.
Rod had an intense love for racing that began when he was 18 years old. He currently had two race cars, and his #21 was legendary throughout Kentucky and parts of Tennessee. However, his first love was his family. He enjoyed spending quality time with them, often at the lake. A community-involved person, Rod would offer his help at anything from fixing his neighbors’ cars to mowing their grass. He also found pleasure in house projects and using his backhoe.
Rod was dearly loved by everyone who knew him and will be deeply missed.
