Obituary for Robert “Bob” “Spuds” Louis Wood (1943-2020)

Barbourville, Ky. – Robert “Bob” “Spuds” Louis Wood departed this life surrounded by family and by his special companion Buddy on Monday, April 6, 2020, at his daughter’s home.  Bob was born on September 18, 1943, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to the late Verna Myer Cooke and Robert Wood. In addition to his parents, Bob was also preceded in death by his loving wife of nearly 50 years, Edna Ruth Gregory Wood, by his infant son Ricky Wood, by his step-father Clarence “Stinker” Myers, by two sisters: Roberta Ann, and Patty and by his brother Steve “Tiny”.

Bob was a Christian who believed in the Baptist faith.  He enjoyed spending time with his family, playing Bingo with his wife, before she passed, fishing with his children and grandchildren, playing cards, listening to country music, playing Knuckles with his grandson Matthew, watching old movies on TV and watching the “Walking Dead” every Sunday.  Bob will always be remembered as a jokester who made everyone laugh. He was always the one who would throw a firecracker at you or light you up when you least expected it.

Bob was a transmission repair technician for over fifty years.  He and his son Steve worked side by side for thirty-five years in the transmission repair business, opening their own Wood Transmission Service twenty-eight years ago where they continued to work together up until as recently as last week.

Bob leaves behind to celebrate his life and to continue his memories:  his daughter, Dina Redwine and her husband Wayne of Cannon; his son, Robert Wood and his wife Marsha of Lawrenceville, Georgia; his son, Steve Wood and his wife Rita of Girdler; and his faithful companion Buddy.  He also leaves behind his grandchildren: Tabitha Frazier and her husband Tommy, Josh King and his fiancé Evelyn, Bradley Wood and his fiancé Natalie, Kayla Wood and her fiancé Cory, Anthony Redwine, Hayley Redwine and Matthew Wood, his constant shadow.  Bob leaves his great grandchildren: Gavin, Gabby, Taylor, Hayden, Colton, Makiah, Mason Robert and Heavenleigh. He also leaves behind his three precious sisters: Diane, Bertha Mae and Mary Louise and two beloved brothers: Ronnie and Wayne.

Casket Bearers are Matthew Wood, Bradley Wood, Josh King, Danney Shelton, Franklin King and Cory Porter.

Honorary Pallbearers are Bluegrass Care Navigators, Knox County Home Health and Barbourville ARH nurses who took wonderful care of him.
