Obituary for Rickey Reeves (1967-2022)

Barbourville, Ky. – Rickey Reeves, 55, passed away December 25, 2022.  Rickey was the son of Charles E. Reeves and Virginia Mills Reeves born to them December 23, 1967, in Barbourville, Kentucky.

Rickey will forever be remembered for his immense love of family and strong faith.  In 1978, at the young age of 11, Rickey made a profession of faith becoming a Christian and member of Poplar Creek Baptist Church.  Rickey was a hard worker.  He took pride in providing for his family, working as a lineman for Five C Construction for many years, and helping his neighbors anyway he could.  Rickey was a strong and honest man.  Always straightforward in his communications with family and friends.  Although a man of few words, when Rickey spoke people listened knowing they would learn much from his insight and wisdom.     

Rickey was preceded in death by his father Charles E. Reeves, sister’s Mayme Michelle Hatfield and Debbie Smith, brother Steve Reeves, niece’s Kasie B. Hatfield and Brittany Reeves Fleenor, and mother-in-law Betty Bingham. 

Left behind to mourn his passing is spouse Shelly Reeves of Barbourville, Kentucky, Mother Virginia Reeves of Barbourville, Kentucky, daughter Samantha Young (Quentin) of Rockhold, Kentucky, and son Ryan Reeves (Sadie) of Richmond, Kentucky, three cherished grandchildren, Evan Ryan Young (George), Ella Grace Young (Callie Lou), and Emery Marie Young (Pumky), and grandbaby Beau Jackson Reeves (Rickey Bobby) expected in March 2023.  Father-in-law Greene Bingham of Barbourville, Kentucky, brother-in-law’s Keith Bingham (Misty) of Perryville, Kentucky and Teddy Smith of Barbourville, Kentucky, sister-in-law Brenda Reeves of Williamsburg, Kentucky, loving friend and neighbor Jim Noe, and a host of nieces and nephews also survive Rickey and will miss him dearly.

The Reeves family will receive friends at Hopper Funeral Home on Thursday, December 29, 2022, from 4:00 PM until the funeral hour of 7:00 PM.  Brother Quentin Young will officiate assisted by Brother Geral Wells.  Musical Tributes to be performed by Amy Bowman.  Interment will be Friday, December 30, 2022, in the Cranes Nest Community.  Family and friends will gather at the cemetery beside New Bethel Baptist Church at 12:00 PM for the committal service.  Casket Bearers are Jonathan Bingham, Ryan Reeves, Jamey Jones, David Hood, Jim Noe, Brian Noe, Hunter Moore, Dusty Wilson, and Brandon Noe.  Honorary Casket Bearer is Dr. Bruce Jung.
