Obituary for Reverend Tilmon Bargo

Rev. Tilmon Bargo, 88, of Gray, passed away Thursday morning, September 17, 2020 at his home. He was the son of the late Abe Bargo Sr. and Dora Bargo born on May 6, 1932 at Salt Gum.

Rev. Bargo was a former General Motors employee and an ordained minister who served in churches in both Michigan and Kentucky.  Later after returning home from Michigan, he attended the Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church and the New Vision Pentecostal Church.  He and his family were well known musicians.  Rev. Bargo faithfully served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict, where he was a medic in a MASH unit. He enjoyed gardening, sitting on his front porch and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

On April 12, 1955, he united in marriage with Wanda Lee Jones and to this union three children were born.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, David Tilmon Bargo Sr., five sisters, Geneva Gambrel, Gretel Gambrel, Wealthy Mills, Julie Bargo and Gertrude Mills Adams and four brothers, Jack, Eugene, Abe Jr. and Leroy Bargo.

Survivors include his loving wife of over 65 years, Wanda Bargo of Gray; two daughters, Phyllis Bargo Fox and husband, Steve, of Farmington Hills, MI and Janet Ellison and husband, Les, of Gray; six grandchildren, Jeff Slusher, Jon Hyslope, Jessi Ciak, Jeremiah Slusher, David Tilmon Bargo Jr. and Lori Bargo England and their spouses; ten great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; among other loved ones and dear friends.

His funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Sunday, September 20 at 3 P.M. with Rev. Darrel Bargo, Rev. Jim Bargo and Rev. Kenny Johnson officiating.  Military funeral honors will follow the service conducted by the American Legion Post 88 Honor Guard.  He will be laid to rest in the Anderson Campbell Cemetery.

Casket bearers will be his grandsons and nephews.

Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday after 12 Noon until the funeral hour.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Knox Funeral Home.
