Rev. Elbert Smith Sr., 76, of Woolum, passed away Monday morning, July 8, 2024 at Baptist Health Corbin. He was the son of the late Bill and Lola Jordan Smith born January 24, 1948 at Mills Creek.
Elbert was a member of the Rock Springs Baptist Church, retired forklift operator and produce salesman. Through his work in the sales industry, Elbert enjoyed meeting people and making new friends. He loved spending time with his family, especially when they could all get together and go four wheeling and he also enjoyed taking camping trips with his family and friends.
In 1968, he united in marriage with Ruby Mills Smith at her home and to this union a son, Elbert Smith Jr., was born.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Ruby; brother and sister-in-law, Dexter and Gracie Smith; sisters and brothers-in-law, Thelma McVey and husband, Junior, Wittie Trent and husband, Ray, Linda Majors and husband, Frank, Wilma Jean Mills, Rachel Mills, Ray Mills and R.D. Smith; mother and father-in-law, Dallas and Ethel Mills.
Survivors include his loving son, Elbert Smith Jr. and wife, Amanda, of Woolum; sisters, Geneva Smith and Jelela Riley and husband, Taylor; brothers, Bill Jr. and Betty Ruth and Paul Kenneth Smith and wife, Kathy; cherished grandson, Elbert Jeffery Smith; brother-in-law, Dallas Mills Jr. and wife, Mary; several nieces and nephews among other loved ones and dear friends.
His funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Saturday, July 13 at 2 P.M. with Rev. Ricky Broughton and Rev. Jerry Smith officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Nan Riley Cemetery.
Serving as casket bearers will be his nephews. Serving as honorary casket bearers will be his family and friends.
Friends may visit at the funeral home Friday from 6 until 9 P.M. and Saturday prior to the funeral hour.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Knox Funeral Home.
