Obituary for Rev. Charles Bright (1947-2025)

Barbourville, Ky. – Reverend Charles Bright, age 77, passed away April 8, 2025.  Charles was the son of John R. Bright and Tressie Grubb Bright born to them November 10, 1947, in Knox County, Kentucky.

Charles was a kind and caring man who loved his family immensely, including his dog, Sandy. He was a man and Reverend dedicated to his Holiness faith and church family at Beech Branch Holiness Church.  Charles was passionate about preaching. Charles united in marriage with Bernice Gray Bright on September 8, 1966, and to this union five cherished children were born.  In addition to his mission to share his faith and comfort others, Charles did maintenance work at American Greetings for many years to provide for his family.  In his spare time, Charles enjoyed hunting, fishing, and selling and trading chickens at the Flea Land Market in London, Kentucky.  Charles will be remembered fondly by all those who knew and loved him. Memories of time shared with Charles will be forever cherished.

Left behind to mourn Charles’ passing is his beloved wife of 59 years Bernice Gray Bright, son Jeffery Wayne Bright and his wife Jennifer of Gray, Kentucky, son Steven Ray Bright and his wife Lovann, of Gray, Kentucky, daughter Angela Bright of Corbin, Kentucky, daughter Charlena Sue Bright of Barbourville, Kentucky, and daughter Samantha Bernice Kay Bailey and husband Tyler Bailey of London, Kentucky, brothers Johnny Bright (Tammy) of Gray, Kentucky, Jerry Bright (Judy) of Bimble, Kentucky, Denver Bright of Stinking Creek, Kentucky and Earl Bright of Bimble, Kentucky, sisters Helen Bright May of Keavy, Kentucky, and Paula Bright Smith (Kent) of Bimble, Kentucky and brother-in-law Charles Gambrel of London, Kentucky.  Six grandchildren, Donny Brock, Kayla Smith, Lindsay Proc, Kayden Eastman, Jacob Wilburn, and Aeriel Lewis, and eighteen great grandchildren also survive Charles and will miss him dearly.

Charles was preceded in Death by his parents John R. and Tressie Grubb Bright of Stinking Creek, Kentucky, brother Kenneth Bright and his wife Mildred of Barbourville, Kentucky, sister Lana Bright Gambrel of London, Kentucky, sister-in-law Carolyn Sue Bright of Bimble, Kentucky, and brother-in-law Roger May of Keavy, Kentucky.

The Bright family will receive friends at Hopper Funeral Home Saturday, April 12, 2025, from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM and Sunday, April 13, 2025, from 11:00 AM until the funeral hour of 1:00 PM.  Funeral officiants are Reverend Jeff Metcalf and Reverend Paul Mitchell.  Musical tributes to be performed by Barb Bingham, Carlene Slusher, and Willard Smith.  Interment will follow the funeral service in the Henry Mills Cemetery, Hinkle, Kentucky.  Casket Bearers are Jeffery Wayne Bright, Steven Ray Bright, Tyler Bailey, JR Smith, Larry Smith, and Robby Stevens.
