Mrs. Rachel Marie Higgins, 87, of Barbourville, the widow of Jack S. Higgins, passed away Monday morning, December 9, 2019 at her home. She was the daughter of the late Rev. Chester and Effie Bargo born on June 14, 1932 in Knox County.
Rachel was a homemaker, a former Warner’s employee and a member of First Baptist Church of Barbourville. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting and especially spending time with her grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Edna Mae Williams and two brothers, Obie and Edwin Bargo.
Survivors include her son, Joe Higgins and wife, Cynthia, of Winchester; two sisters, Myrtle Bailey and Evelyn Hampton both of Barbourville; five grandchildren, Kimberly Scharf, Ariel, Bradley and Ashley Higgins and Hannah Whitt; seven great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; among other loved ones and dear friends.
Her funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Friday, December 13 at 1 P.M. with Rev. Lonnie Collett and Rev. Randy Johnson officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Barbourville Cemetery.
Casket bearers will be family and friends.
Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday between 6 and 8 P.M. and Friday prior to the funeral hour.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Knox Funeral Home.
