Mrs. Oda Taylor, 91, of Girdler, the widow of Harlan Taylor, passed away Tuesday morning, December 6, 2022 at Baptist Health Corbin. She was the daughter of the late Chester and America Smith born on November 9, 1931 at Woollum.
Oda was a homemaker, a former seamstress with Warner’s and a member of the Rock Springs Church. She enjoyed singing, studying her Bible, teaching the Word of God to others and was known to be a “mother hen” to her family.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, J. C. Taylor; granddaughter, Buffy Smith; great grandson, Aidan Paul Chavies; two sisters, Alta Mills and Ada Hubbard; a brother, R. C. Smith and a son-in-law, Larry Chadwell.
Survivors include her loving children, Dennia Chadwell and James Patton of Cannon, Wilma Sherrod and husband, Mark, of Knoxville, TN, Harlan C. Taylor and wife, Joy, of Girdler, Carrol Chavies and husband, Dennis, of Himyar and T J Taylor and wife, Sheila, of Lancaster; two sisters, Edith Mills and Bessie Smallwood both of New Salisbury, IN; ten grandchildren, Sharon Gray, Lorie Taylor, Lanie Taylor, Shannon Moler, Larry David Chadwell, Harlan Edward Smith, Sabrina Cruz, Kasi Grande, Timothy Allen Chavies and Allyson Taylor; nine great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews include a special niece, Mary Etta Smith; among other loved ones and dear friends.
Her funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Friday, December 9 at 8 P.M. with Rev. Jerry Smith officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Calvin Jordan Cemetery Saturday, December 10 at 12 Noon.
Casket bearers will be family and friends.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. Swiney, Dr. Williams and the staff of Baptist Health Corbin.
Friends may call at the funeral home Friday after 6 P.M. until the funeral hour. Family and friends will meet at the funeral home Saturday at 11 A.M. and go in procession to the cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Knox Funeral Home.
