Mrs. Nell Bernice Elliott, 82, of Artemus, passed away Wednesday morning, April 19, 2023 at her home. She was the daughter of the late Orvil and Cornellia Rice Sowders born on March 12, 1941 at Anchor.
Bernice was a retired cook from the Knox County Hospital and was a member of the Artemus First Baptist Church. She enjoyed watching Braves baseball games and cheering on the Kentucky Wildcats basketball team. She was known for riding around Artemus on her golf cart visiting her neighbors. She loved to find old country music videos on YouTube, especially those of George Jones, watch the hummingbirds as they flew around her bird feeder and listening to Brian as he played the guitar. Most of all, she found joy in spending the day with her grandchildren.
On May 2, 1964, she united in marriage with Robert Austin Elliott and to this union two daughters were born.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Austin Elliott; sisters, Joyce Jean Sowders, Geneva Mills, Debbie York and Bobbie Wells; brothers, Delbert and Bill J. Sowders; sister-in-law, Francis Sowders and brother-in-law, Henry Mills.
Survivors include her loving daughters, Sherry Sowders and husband, Greg, and Michelle Nelson and husband, Brian, all of Artemus; two grandsons, Brian Sowders and Jacob Nelson and wife, Jordan; four granddaughters, Tawney and fiancé, Zach, Macey, Sarah, Korie and Harley; a special sister-in-law, Betty Montgomery, who was more like a sister; sister-in-law, Kathy Sowders, brothers-in-law, Eugene Wells and Raymond Elliott; several nieces and nephews; among other loved ones and dear friends.
Her funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Saturday, April 22 at 2 P.M. with Rev. James McDonald and Rev. Sylvester Dunn officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Burch-Alford Cemetery.
Casket bearers will be Rodney Elliott, Zach Bunch, John Bunch, Russell Mills, Andrew Mills, Jacob Nelson and Cody Smith.
Friends may visit at the funeral home Saturday after 12 Noon until the funeral hour.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Knox Funeral Home.
