Obituary for Mrs. Marie Farmer West (1935-2020)

Mrs. Marie Farmer West, 85, of Springfield, IL, passed away Friday, November 20, 2020 at Mill Creek Alzheimer’s Special Care Center in Springfield. Marie was born March 17, 1935 in Barbourville, the daughter of the late John T. and Lela Mae Prichard Farmer.

Marie graduated from Barbourville High School and earned her licensed practical nursing license at the Capital Area Career Center in Springfield. She worked as an LPN at HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield for many years. She was of the American Baptist faith.

On October 30, 1954, she united in marriage with Roy West Jr. in Jellico, TN. They later divorced.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Dennis Ray West and nine brothers and sisters.

Survivors include two sons, Roy West and wife, Stacy, of Pawnee, IL and Chris West and wife, Danielle, of Springfield, IL; a daughter, Libby Jenkins and husband, Tim, of Springfield, IL; nine grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; a brother, J. B. Farmer and wife, Hazel; two sisters, Wilma Garrison and husband, Matt, and Billie Franklin, all of Barbourville; several nieces, nephews and cousins; among other loved ones and dear friends.

Following a service Monday at the Curry Funeral Home in Pawnee, IL, a private graveside service will be held in the Barbourville Cemetery Wednesday, November 25.

Casket bearers will be family and friends.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Floor 17, Chicago, IL 60601 in her memory.

Local arrangements are under the direction of the Knox Funeral Home.

Please remember, per the Governor’s mandate effective November 20, 2020 all funeral services will be private.  Any person entering the funeral home is expected to be wearing a face covering of some kind at all times including graveside services and maintain the six feet of social distance.  We appreciate your help in following these guidelines so we can continue to serve our community during these trying times in the safest manner possible.
