Barbourville, Ky. – Mossie Lee Mills, 76, passed away March 18, 2021. Mossie was the daughter of Mable Williams King and Otto King, joyfully born to them March 14, 1945 in Bell County, Kentucky.
Mossie will forever be remembered for her kindness and for her strength. Mossie worked as a beautician for many years and was a member of the East Barbourville Baptist Church. She lived a simple, country life, always looking out for the underdog. Mossie was an independent woman who believed in doing things yourself and not having more than you need. She lived by the motto, “waste not want not”. Mossie loved her family and friends fiercely, and was very protective of them. Those close to her appreciated her straightforward and matter of fact communication style. In her spare time, Mossie enjoyed spending time with family, especially her grandchildren, and her dogs, Jack and Trooper.
Along with her parents, Mable Williams King and Otto King, Mossie’s beloved husband, Virgil Mills preceded her in death, as did her adored grandmother, Amanda Della Carroll; three sisters: Christine “Lily” Davis, Emma Noble, and Ruth Moore and two brothers: James Edward “Whitey” King, and Tom King. One dear grandson, Jathan Malachi Patterson, also preceded Mossie in death.
Left behind to mourn her passing are her cherished daughters, Tina Sowders (Jay) and Virgie York (Jason). Four grandchildren: Andrew “Jed” Sowders (Whitney), Devin Sowders (Megan Perry), Jaylee York, and Jase Reid York, as well as two great-grandchildren: Braylei and Cobe also survive Mossie.
