Mr. Morris R. “Joe” Jackson, 97, of Cannon, passed away Monday morning, July 25, 2022 at his home. He was the son of the late Charles R. and Nannie Hammons Jackson born on March 14, 1925 at Cannon.
Joe was a former English teacher at Knox Central High School and attended the Sinking Valley Baptist Church. He didn’t get to go through his high school graduation ceremony, because he was drafted when he turned 18 and faithfully served our country in the United States Army during World War II at Ascension Island in the South Atlantic and then in Brazil. At the time of his discharge, Joe held the rank of Sergeant. He was a member of the American Legion and enjoyed being with his family, reading and gardening.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law, Edith and Ewing Cornett.
Survivors include two dearly loved nieces, Penny Staley and husband, Greg, of Tipp City, OH and Patricia “Trish” Bertram and husband, Mike, of Troy, OH; cherished great nieces and nephews, Lauren Brune and husband, Nathan, Allison Staley, Eric Staley and wife, Emily, Abigail Bertram and Travis Bertram; great-great nieces, Margo and Willow Staley and Isabelle Brune; loving caregivers, Carlene Pierce, Ginger Hensley. Mike Spradlin, Kayla Hensley, Shannon Rutherford, Ashley Middleton, Dina Redwine and Jennifer Broughton Grey; among other loved ones and dear friends.
A graveside service with military funeral honors will be conducted in the Jones-Hurst Cemetery Thursday, July 28 at 11:30 A.M. with Pastor David Barnard officiating.
Casket bearers will be family and friends.
Family and friends will gather at the cemetery Thursday prior to the service time.
