Rev. Marvis G. Pridemore, 86, of Barbourville, passed away Thursday afternoon, September 30, 2021 at his home. He was the son of the late Harvey Esom and Florence Elva Taylor Pridemore born on November 7, 1934 in Knox County.
Marvis was retired from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet and was an ordained Baptist minister, who pastored in numerous churches in Knox and Whitley counties. He was a member and former pastor of the Louden Baptist Church. Marvis loved nature, especially birds, and enjoyed working in his yard, planting flowers, spending time with his grandchildren and in earlier years enjoyed fishing. He was a KY Colonel and faithfully served his country in the United States Marine Corps.
On June 21, 1956, he united in marriage with Victoria Bargo and to this union two children were born.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Newanda Pridemore Yeager and an infant brother.
Survivors include his loving wife of over 65 years, Victoria Pridemore of Barbourville; beloved children, Belinda Baker and Dennis Cushman of Maryville, TN and Douglas Pridemore and wife, Vickie, of Corbin; treasured grandchildren, Jason Baker, Jeremy Pridemore, Crystal Kazinec and husband, Ryan, Christopher Baker and Jennifer Proffitt and husband, Kenny; six great grandchildren, Rachael, Raelynn, Everly, Jeremiah, Malea and Aubrey; among other loved ones and dear friends.
His funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Thursday, October 7 at 2 P.M. with Rev. Delbert Umphrey and Rev. Kennon Roark officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Lynn Camp Cemetery with military funeral honors.
Casket bearers will be Hobert Adams, Carlos Mills, Kenny Proffitt, Jeremy Pridemore, Gary Mills, Ryan Kazinec and Jason Baker. Honorary bearers will be Johnny Meade, Tilford Bowling, Paul Allmond and members of the Louden Baptist Church.
Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday between 5 and 9 P.M. and Thursday prior to the funeral hour.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Knox Funeral Home.
