Mrs. Marlene Phillips, 79, of Corbin, passed away Monday morning, October 18, 2021 at her home. She was the daughter of the late King and Elsie Grubb Smith born on April 26, 1942 on Mill Creek in Clay County.
Marlene was a homemaker and a member of the Parkway Baptist Church. She enjoyed working crossword puzzles, watching WLJC and especially loved spending time with her grandchildren. She also delighted in making Christmas ornaments to give to family and friends. Marlene will be dearly missed and remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.
On May 4, 1968, she united in marriage with James Hutton and to this union three children were born. Later in life, she married Earl Phillips.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Earl; two sisters, Edith Ledford and husband, Ray, and an infant sister, Ethel Smith; five brothers, Baxter Smith and wife, Glenna, Bazel Smith and wife, Beulah, Ray Smith and wife, Bernice, Water Smith and wife, Mary, and Wesley Smith and a brother-in-law, Raymond Brown.
Survivors include a daughter, Terri Anderson of Lexington; two sons, Randy Hutton and wife, Linda, of East Bernstadt and Brian Hutton and wife, Amanda, of Lugoff, SC; grandchildren, Tryna Sergent, Shawn Anderson, Devon and Josh Hutton, Tim Likens, Brandon Elswick, Sarah Powell, Jared and Shane Crowder; great grandchildren, Destiny and Emma Powell, Amula Bush, Spencer and Gracelyn Hutton; four sisters, Mona Duncil and husband, Dewey, of California, Joyce Mills and husband, Herschel, of Scalf, Verna Hammons of Corbin and Sue Brown of Barbourville; two very special friends, Sue Smith and Brenda Griffin; a host of nieces and nephews; among other loved ones and dear friends.
Her funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral home Tuesday, October 26 at 2 P.M. with Rev. Herman Mills officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Barbourville Cemetery.
Casket bearers will be Devon Hutton, Shawn Anderson, Josh Hutton, Chris Mills, Robbie Hendrickson, Daniel Parman and Travis Marquez. Serving as honorary bearers will be Dr. Dr. Hasni and his staff, Dr. Niazi and his staff, Knox County Home Health and the residents and staff of Baptist Housing.
Friends may call at the funeral home Monday between 6 and 8 P.M. and Tuesday prior to the funeral hour.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Knox Funeral Home.
