Barbourville, Ky. – Mrs. Marie Newman, 89, of Brandenburg, Kentucky, formerly of Knox County, passed away Monday, May 9, 2022, at her home. Mrs. Newman was a sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was much loved by her entire family and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Mrs. Newman had a strong faith in the teachings of the Pentecostal Church.
Marie was born February 3, 1933, at Fount, Kentucky to the late Henry Matt and Ellen Rachel Bright Broughton. She united in marriage to the late Lewis E. Newman on May 12,1951 in Tazewell, Tennessee. Marie and Lewis were married over 65 years before she was widowed on December 14, 2016.
In addition to her parents, Henry Matt Broughton and Ellen Rachel Bright Broughton, Marie was preceded in death by her beloved husband Lewis E. Newman; siblings Dorothy, Cecil, Laura, McKinley, Lucy, Denver, Thelma and Christine Broughton and great grandson Zachary Nail.
Left behind to mourn her passing are her children Janie Patterson of Louisville, Kentucky, Margie Wombles (Glen) of Boston, Kentucky, Harold Newman (Shirley) of Elizabethtown Ky, Linda Jennette (Fred) of Flaherty, Kentucky, and Larry Newman (Diane) of Ocala, Florida, and brother Oakley Broughton of Louisville, Kentucky. Ten grandchildren, Mark Newman and Jeff Newman of Elizabethtown, Kentucky, Stephanie Cornelius of New Haven, Kentucky, Patrick Patterson of Indianapolis Indiana, Philip Sullivan of Radcliff, Kentucky, Sherry Kight of Greenville, Indiana, Tyler Jennette of Flaherty, Kentucky, Matthew Newman of Shepherdsville, Kentucky, Nicholas Newman of Ocala, Florida, and Carly Sinclair of Columbus, Ohio; twelve great grandchildren Bryce Newman, Ashley Covington, Mackenzie Naill, Reed Patterson, Cecelia Patterson, Landon Kight, William Kight, and Luke Kight, Conner Newman, Harmony Newman, Melody Newman, and Alyson Newman and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and dear friends also survive Marie and will miss her dearly.
The Newman Family will receive friends at Hopper Funeral Home on Saturday, May 14, 2022, from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM. The Funeral Service for Ms. Newman will be Sunday, May 15, 2022, at 2:00 PM. Reverend Vernon Morris will officiate. Interment will follow the funeral service in the George Newman Cemetery at Noeville Hollow. The Newman Family has requested that Mr. Newman’s grandsons serve as casket bearers.
