Mrs. Margie Rhodes, age 81, of Straight Creek, formerly of Barbourville, passed away on October 31, 2024. Margie was born May 15, 1943, in Wheeler, the daughter of the late John Will and Florence Mahan Brown.
Margie was a proud graduate of Knox Central High School and a devoted and loving wife to her late husband, George Rhodes. A devoted and loving Mother to her sons, John Rhodes and Michael Rhodes; A devoted and loving Nana and Grandmother to Dalton Rhodes, Reilly Rhodes, Peyton Rhodes, Julia Kiewel, Andrew Kiewel, and Zachary Mitchell. Margie loved the Kentucky Wildcats and her grand dogs Charlie and Izzy. Her favorite color was purple.
In addition to her beloved parents, Margie was preceded in death by her husband, George Rhodes; twin sister, Maggie Brown; sisters, Ruth Lawson and her husband Earl Lawson, Beuanna Williamson and her husband, Jay; brothers, Claude Brown and his wife, Evelyn and W.H. Brown and his wife, Sallie.
Margie is survived by her sons, Mike Rhodes and fiancé, Melissa Mitchell, of Indiana, and John Rhodes and wife, Jennifer, of New Jersey; grandchildren, Dalton Rhodes, Reilly Rhodes, Peyton Rhodes, Julia Kiewel, Andrew Kiewel, and Zachary Mitchell; brother, Walter Brown and wife, Frances, of Bryant’s Store; many nieces, nephews, close family friends; and special men whom she loved like sons, Colby and Joshua Slusher, James Curtis Smith, and Gary Burchfield.
Funeral services will be 12:00 Noon, Saturday, November 9, 2024, at Brooks-Durham Funeral Home, Pineville, KY, with the Rev. Brian Smith of Old Poplar Creek Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Barbourville City Cemetery. Visitation will be held Saturday beginning at 11:00am at Brooks Durham Funeral Home until the hour of service. Pallbearers will be Gary Burchfield, James Curtis Smith, Colby Slusher, Joshua Slusher, Steve Philpot, and John Barger. Honorary pallbearers will be the staff of Barbourville Health and Rehabilitation Center.
The family wishes to thank the devoted staff of Barbourville Health and Rehabilitation Center for taking such good care of Margie and befriending her throughout her illness.
