Ms. Margaret “Maggie” Smith, of Barbourville, passed away Monday morning, January 10, 2022 at the Barbourville ARH Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Margaret Cain Bruce and James Arthur Hinkle born in Corbin.
Maggie was a former receptionist and housekeeper at the Best Western Wilderness Trail Inn, she volunteered in the cafeteria at Jesse D. Lay Elementary School where she enjoyed being with and helping the children. She loved reading, going out to dinner, taking care of her dog, Bambi, and most of all spending time with her twin granddaughters, Harlow and Oaklee.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Bill and Dorthy Cain and paternal grandparents, Cleveland and Ruth Hinkle.
Survivors include her beloved children, Matthew Alexander Hinkle of Barbourville, Cain Smith and wife, Emily, of Harlan, Kamden Smith and fiancé, Courtney, of Barbourville and daughter Zoe Rae Hale of Barbourville; a sister, Lindsay Jackson of Lexington, SC; four brothers, John Hinkle of Corbin, James “Art” Hinkle and wife, Christy, of Barbourville, Larry Hinkle and wife, Kelli, of Barbourville and Christopher Moore and wife, Kimberly, of Newport, VA; her Stepfather, Lonnie Bruce of Barbourville; biological mother, Patricia Hinkle Pokki of Gaston, SC and a very special friend and caregiver, Sarah Teague; among other loved ones and dear friends.
Her funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Sunday, January 16 at 2 P.M. with Rev. Samuel Lawson and Cleveland “Bo” Hinkle officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Bruce Cemetery at California Hollow.
Casket bearers will be Alex Hinkle, Cain Smith, Kamden Smith, Peyton Hinkle, Hunter Hinkle, Bronson Roaden, Zach Cain and Robbie Mills. Serving as honorary bearers will be Dr. Rodney Smith and staff at the Daniel Boone Family Health, doctors and staff at the Barbourville ARH Hospital and the Knox County EMS.
Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday after 12 Noon until the funeral hour.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Knox Funeral Home.
