Mr. Luther Smith, 84, of London, passed away Wednesday evening, July 7, 2021 at his home. He was the son of the late Boyd and Virgie Lawson Smith born on February 9, 1937 at Beverly in Bell County.
Luther was a self-employed farmer and of the Baptist faith. He enjoyed being outdoors ginsenging, fox hunting, fishing and gardening.
On October 15, 1966, he united in marriage with Louese Swafford and to this union three children were born.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Ella Mae Spanogle; brothers, J. B. and J. C. Smith; a beloved nephew, Jerry Wayne Smith and his parents-in-law, J. C. and Mary Swafford.
Survivors include his loving wife of 54 years, Louese Smith of London; beloved children, Jimmy Smith and fiancé, Alicia Reid, Roberta Proffitt and husband, Roger, and Bonnie Allen and husband, Farrell Kim, all of London; a sister, Ethel Smith of Barbourville; brothers, Arthur Smith of London and Luster Smith and wife, Kathleen, of Barbourville; precious grandchildren, James Proffitt and wife, Jamie, Bridget Nicole Hundley and husband, Jake, and Darren Allen and wife, Ashley; three great grandchildren, Maci Leanne Nicole, Landon Ray and Darren Lucas Allen; among other loved ones and dear friends.
His funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Sunday, July 11 at 1 P.M. with Rev. Owen Smith officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Boyd Smith Cemetery.
Casket bearers will be Johnny Swafford, Jimmy Smith, Farrell Allen, Darren Allen, Jake Hundley and Donnie Allen.
Visitation for Mr. Smith will be at the funeral home Saturday between 6 and 8 P.M. and Sunday prior to the funeral hour.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Knox Funeral Home.
