Barbourville, Ky. – Louise Smith, 84, formerly of Corbin, passed away March 18, 2020 in LaSalle, Illinois. Louise was joyfully born, in Knox County, to Steve and Nettie (Jordan) Smith on September 30, 1935. On August 8, 1952, Louise united in marriage to Vocus Smith and to this union three daughters were born. Louise lived most of her adult life in Corbin, where she owned and operated a home day care for 35 years. Louise was a well-loved member of the Sojourn Baptist Church in Corbin. She adored singing in the church choir and her fellow church members delighted in Louise’s generous gift of music that she gave to the church. Louise was known as an amazing cook, who loved to share her meals in her home, which was always open to friends and family.
Louise is survived by three daughters: Patricia Ann (John) Duncan of LaSalle, Il., Deborah (Mark) Inman of LaSalle, Il. and Sherry (Troy) Stanford of Arlington, Il; three grandchildren: Holly (Joe) Kitchens of Princeton, Il., Ashley Louise (Adam) Inman of Oglesby, Il., and Erin Stanford of Arlington, Il; three great-grandchildren: Daniel, Ian, and Bethany Kitchens of Princeton. Louise is also survived by one sister: Lily (GW) Abner or Woolum; two brothers: GC Smith of Jacksonsville, NC. and Thomas (Betty) Smith of Rochelle, Il.
Louise was preceded in death by her loving husband in 2002; by two sisters: Pauline Chestnut and Eliza Wagers; by three brothers: Steve Smith, Jr., Ernest Smith and Denver Smith.
Arrangements for Louise Smith will be private in keeping with the recent advisement regarding COVID-19 from Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear’s office and from the CDC.
