Barbourville, Ky. – Lisa Martin, 53, of Manchester, Kentucky passed away January 30, 2022, surrounded by her loving family. Lisa was the daughter of Hazel Mays Napier and Glen Napier, joyfully born to them on November 2, 1968, in Clay County, Kentucky.
She leaves behind her mother Hazel Mays Napier; beloved husband of almost 40 years Charles “Mitchell” Martin; son Steven “Gus” Paul Martin and wife Jennifer Strong Martin; son Charles “Bruiser” Glen Martin and wife Misty Gilliam Martin; daughter Courtney Cornelia Martin; daughter Haylie Elaine Martin; sister Glenna Ann Napier and husband Bill Hess; seven grandchildren Trevor, Rachel, Lexie, Lindsey, Briley, Kaylee “Baby Sis”, and Myles “Bub”, and a host of family and friends to mourn her passing.
Genuinely kind, selfless, humble, and loving, Lisa always chose to put the needs of others above her own. She was dedicated to her faith, family, and community and never missed an opportunity to invite someone to church or to tell others of God’s goodness. Her children admired her walk with the Lord and are thankful for a mother who truly aligned her life with the word of God, raising them up in the way they should go. She was dedicated, determined, and hard-working, never missing a day of work. Lisa worked for the Clay County Board of Education for nearly 30 years as a bus driver. Her family shared that Lisa once bought gifts for all the students on her bus for Christmas; though, this just one of her many acts of kindness. Lisa loved going to church and regularly attended services at Word of Faith Pentecostal Church and Horse Creek Holiness where she enjoyed listening to the lively music.
Aside from the Lord, it was family that meant the most to Lisa. She loved her family immensely and never missed an opportunity to spend time with them. Being surrounded by her family was one of her greatest joys. Lisa had a special bond with her parents, especially her mother who she loved dearly. A favorite tradition of Lisa’s was cooking a big homemade breakfast on Sundays for the entire family to share. In her free time, Lisa liked creating/designing, relaxing with her cats and dogs, especially her Yorkie Paisley, tending to her flower garden and her favorite Canna Lilies, going for pedicures with the “girls”, going out on Saturdays for their regular weekly outing, and going antique shopping while in search for unique dolls to add to her collection.
Though her children describe Lisa as a talented, wise, and hard-working person who could do anything she set her mind to, they said one of her greatest talents of all was being a mother. A mother’s love is like no other, and Lisa loved deeply for her children. Not only her children, but people. Lisa was a people person who loved being in the company of others and truly never met a stranger. She loved making people laugh, smile, and being of help in any way she could. The time she picked up a young gentleman at the grocery store who needed a way back to his family is just one example. Lisa was always willing to do whatever, for whoever, shining the light of the Lord in her life always. She will be remembered fondly by all who knew and loved her and greatly remembered for her relationship with Christ, her selflessness, and the sincere love she had for all of those around her.
She was preceded in death by her father, Glen Napier.
