Barbourville, Ky. – Leslie Del Lawson, 66, passed away September 24, 2021. Leslie was the son of Lillian (Hembree) Lawson and James Durwood (Dag) Lawson born to them on August 10, 1955.
Leslie was born and raised in the mountains of Knox County, Kentucky. He was a hard worker, driving a truck for Lawson and Sons for several years and later a school bus for the Knox County Public Schools. He retired from the Knox County Board of Education after many dedicated years of service. When he wasn’t working, Leslie liked to go fishing. He also loved music and was a talented singer. In his younger years, Leslie enjoyed singing with a local gospel group.
Leslie was preceded in death by his parents, Lillian (Hembree) Lawson and James Durwood (Dag) Lawson.
Left behind to mourn his passing are his three children, daughters Rebekah Singleton (John) and Regina Lawson (fiancé Harrison Wagers) both of Barbourville, Kentucky, and son Kendal Lawson of Trosper, Kentucky; one sister, Elaine Williams (David) of Barbourville, Kentucky; three grandchildren, Jade Collins (Tyler), Karlee Singleton, and Caleb Mills; one great grandchild, Kaiden Collins; three Aunts, Joan Bruner (Gene) of Corbin, Kentucky, Geraldine Smith of Corbin, Kentucky, and Nellie Lawson of Artemus, Kentucky, and one Uncle, Ken Hembree of Florida. A host of other cherished family members and friends also survive Leslie and will remember him fondly.
A visitation for family and friends is planned for Mr. Lawson on Monday, October 4, 2021, at Hopper Funeral Home from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM. Interment will follow the visitation in the Stewart Abner Cemetery at Artemus, Kentucky. Reverend Kenneth “Buster” Liford will officiate.
