Mr. Leroy Junior Lankford, 85, of Shelbyville, formerly of Boone Height, passed away Saturday afternoon, January 8, 2022 at the Norton Brownsboro Hospital in Louisville. He was the son of the late William and Winnie Warren Lankford born on November 26, 1936 at Straight Creek in Bell County.
Junior was a former metal finisher with the Budd Co. and of the Baptist faith. He enjoyed building houses and farming.
On November 8, 1960, he united in marriage with Jill Hubbard in Jellico, TN and to this union a daughter was born.
In addition to his parents, William and Winnie Warren Lankford, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jill Hubbard Lankford; grandparents who raised him, William and Relda Lankford; four brothers, Russell, Curt, Sherl and Coy Lankford and several nieces and nephews.
Survivors include his loving daughter, Debra Short and husband, Jay, of Shelbyville; three sisters, Joyce Helton of LaFollette, TN and Wanda Morrison and husband, Leonard, and Patsy Heath and husband, Lamar, all of Talladega, AL; three brothers, Ray Lankford and Uyless Lankford both of Pineville and Gene Lankford and wife, Dell, of Frakes; several nieces and nephews; among other loved ones and dear friends.
His funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Tuesday, January 18 at 12 Noon with Rev. Kennon Roark officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Barbourville Cemetery.
Serving as casket bearers will be family and friends.
Friends may call at the funeral home Monday, January 17 between 6 and 8 P.M. and Tuesday prior to the funeral hour.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Knox Funeral Home.
