Mrs. Laura Etta Warren Smith, 89, of Southgate, MI, formerly of Barbourville, passed away September 5, 2024 at the Henry Ford Hospital in Wyandotte, MI. She was the daughter of the late Gilbert and Artie Meridy Warren born November 18, 1934 in Barbourville.
Laura was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith. She enjoyed attending church, spreading the Gospel and was a long-time supporter of the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews. She was an avid traveler whose most memorable trips were to London, Spain and Hawaii.
On July 18, 1953 she united in marriage with Calvin Smith Jr. in Claiborne County, TN.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Calvin; brothers, Charles and Woodrow Warren and a sister, Esther Warren.
Survivors include her loving children, Jerry D. Smith of Arlington, TX, Judy A. Smith of Trenton, MI and David B. Smith of Southgate, MI; brothers, Dearl Warren of Corbin and Roy Warren of Melvindale, MI; cherished grandchildren, Kara Edwards, Jillian Carpenter, Jeffery Smith and Garrett Smith; great-grandchildren, Dallas Carpenter and Leila Noella Smith; among other loved ones and dear friends.
Her funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Friday, September 13 at 1 P.M. She will be laid to rest in the W.H. Smith Memorial Gardens.
Serving as casket bearers will be Jerry Smith, David Smith, Michael Edwards, Garrett Smith, Ralph Carpenter and Dearl Warren.
Friends may visit at the funeral home Thursday between 6 and 8 P.M. and Friday prior to the funeral hour.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Knox Funeral Home.
