Mr. Larry James “Buster” Dye, born November 19, 1947, passed away on Thursday morning, February 13, 2025. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years Versie Rose Dye. They were united in marriage on June 21, 1968.
Larry and Versie had three children; Lisa Terry and husband, Steven, Sandy Wilson and husband, William, Larry Dye Jr. and wife, Amy. Larry is also survived by fourteen grandchildren, C.D. Sanders and wife, Brandy, Matthew Jones and wife, Katie, Josh Jones and wife, Amanda, Rebecca St. John and husband, Matthew, Michaela Patterson and husband, Austin, Zachary Sanders and wife, Jordan, Savanah Dye, Jacob Sanders and wife, Danielle, Kitisha Lawson and husband, David, Aaliyah Dye, Austin Dye, Zoe Dye, Bentley Dye, Carter Dye and 21 great grandchildren.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse James “Shorty” Dye and Maude Scalf Dye, and sister, Linda Joyce Bunch.
He is also survived by a brother, David Dye, and his beloved fur baby, Blakey James “Little Man”; special sons, Thomas and Fred Mitchell and Carl Sanders.
Larry was a retired self employed carpenter and mechanic. In previous years, he worked for Treadway Brothers. Larry loved listening to music, cars, chewing tobacco, coffee and cruising the back roads. He also enjoyed watching westerns and being out on the farm. Most of all, he cherished time spent with his family.
Larry leaves behind a host of loved ones and friends.
His funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Tuesday, February 25 at 2 P.M. with Zach Sanders, Rev. Leslie Broughton and Rev. Rick Thomas officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Tanyard Cemetery.
Serving as casket bearers will be his grandsons and special sons.
Friends may visit at the funeral home Monday between 6 and 8 P.M. and on Tuesday prior to the funeral hour.
