Obituary for Lana Gail White (1958-2023)

Barbourville, Ky. – Lana Gail White, 65 of Barbourville, passed away at home surrounded by her loving family and treasured friends. Lana was the daughter of Joyce Whitley, born to her April 9, 1958, in Bell County, Pineville, Kentucky.

On September 24, 2023, at sunrise on a beautiful Sunday morning God sent an Angel to take Lana Gail’s hand and bring her home to glory. No more pain! No more suffering!  Lana, formerly from Bell County, Kentucky, where she raised her son Corey Whitley, graduated from Pineville High School in 1976 and was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church there before relocating to Barbourville. Once in Barbourville she attended Wayman Chapel AME Church. On December 14, 1997, Lana, and James K. White Jr., united in marriage. Together they happily raised Justin James White and Sara Rejai Powers. Lana loved going to church.  She was a prayer warrior and enjoyed singing whenever she could.  Lana was a simple woman.  She loved her grandchildren dearly and it was well known. She cherished time at home where she was known to write down recipes wherever she could. She was a humble and quite natured but also had a sense of humor and enjoyed cracking jokes. Lana also loved sweets, her favorite treat was a Pineapple milkshake, but she also enjoyed Butterfinger and Payday candy bars.  Lana Gail White will be missed tremendously by family and friends. 

Left to cherish her memory is her loving husband of 25 years, James Kenneth White Jr., son Corey Deondrea Whitley and wife Kutura, of Middlesboro, Kentucky, son Justin James White of Barbourville, Kentucky, and daughter Sara Rejai Powers and husband Jason of Williamsburg, Kentucky.  When Lana went to receive her well-earned Crown and Robe from the Father, she also left three devoted sisters to mourn her passing: Jaquetta Sue Lewis of Cincinnati, Ohio, Linda Willis and husband Rickey of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and Tammie Rogers of Barbourville, Kentucky.  Fourteen grandchildren, Deondrea Cordail Whitley, Jada Lee Breanna Whitley, Ladassa Lynn Shantell Whitley, Allieona Anajah Whitley, Aniyah Faith Joyce Whitley, Denzel Lamart Chance Whitley, Dominic Micheal Andre Whitley, Tayshaun James White, Alexandria Rejai White, Justin Nehemiah White, Titus Clay White, Olivia Fayth Powers, and Cameron Ailijah Powers as well as a a host of adoring nieces and nephews also survive Lana and mourn her passing. Lana was proceeded in death by her mother Joyce Whitley, whom she loved dearly, and two brothers, Larry Allen Whitley, and Gary Ellis Whitley. Two nephews, Evan Whitley, and Joshua Whitley also proceeded Lana in death. 

The White family will receive friends at Hopper Funeral Home, Saturday, September 30, 2023, from 12:00 PM until the funeral hour of 2:00 PM. Reverends Louise Spencer and Charles Tinsley will officiate, with a musical tribute performed by Tammie Rogers and Justin James White.  Interment will follow in the Rosenwald Cemetery. The family has chosen as casket bearers: Nick Gambrel, Robert Maddix, Jason Powers, Justin White, Corey Whitley, and Ricky Willis. Honorary casket bearers are dedicated employees of Hospice of the Blue Grass.
