Ms. Katherine Espenshade Messer, 69, of Barbourville, passed away Wednesday afternoon, April 23, 2025 at her home. She was born December 1, 1955 in Corbin, the daughter of the late Grant and Margie Shorter Messer.
Kathy was a homemaker and a member of the Faith Tabernacle Pentecostal Church. Kathy had a love for discovering hidden treasures and “thrifting” with family and friends at vintage shops, antique stores and thrift boutiques. She took great pride in her appearance and was always well dressed. She also had a passion for sewing homemade quilts.
Survivors include her children, Travis Tedders and wife, Shayne, of London, Jonathan Tedders and wife, Samantha, of Browder and Justin Tedders of Barbourville; a brother, Johnny Messer and wife, Vivian, of Barbourville; grandchildren, Breyden Tedders and wife, Jessica, Deagan, Elijah, Sydney, Colton, Isaac and Piper Tedders; great grandchildren, Parker, Hadley and Kollyns Tedders; three nephews; seven great nieces and two great nephews; among other loved ones and dear friends.
Her funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Wednesday, April 30 at 11 A.M. with Rev. Samuel Lawson and Rev. Mickie Smith officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Barbourville Cemetery.
Casket bearers will be Breyden Tedders, Deagan Tedders, Elijah Tedders, Isaac Tedders, Joe Jones, Dennis Messer, Tim Messer and Tony Messer.
Friends may visit at the funeral home Tuesday between 6 and 8 P.M. and Wednesday after 9 A.M. until the funeral hour.
The family requests that memorial gifts go to the Faith Tabernacle Church Youth Group, 239 Terrell Lane, Barbourville, KY 40906 in her memory.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Knox Funeral Home.
