Mrs. Judy Kay Shields, 79, of Barbourville, passed away Monday evening, April 4, 2022 at the UK Bluegrass Hospice Care Center in Lexington. She was the daughter of the late Willard David and Geralda Ollie Wiese Giebenrath born on March 29, 1943 in Salina, KS.
Judy was a homemaker and former owner and operator of J & S Nice and New Shop for 20 years. She was a member of the St. Gregory Catholic Church. Judy enjoyed reading, sewing, tending to her flower garden, playing bingo with her husband and especially enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.
On June 23, 1962, she united in marriage with Garrett Lee Shields and to this union six children were born.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Melinda Lee Shields and a sister, Sharon Morgan.
Survivors include her loving husband, Garrett Lee Shields of Barbourville; five children, Valerie Sherer and husband, Dennis, of Tuscumbia, AL, Bobbi Jo Shields of Fredericksburg, VA, Jeffrey Shields and wife, Kim, of Perryville, Lori Holland of Lexington and Jessica Payne and husband, Randy, of Barbourville; two sisters, Wilma Rocha and husband, Tony, of Phoenix, AZ and Barbara Ruley of Denver, CO; two brothers, Willard Giebenrath and wife, Debbie, of Mequon, WI and Robert Giebenrath, Orlando, FL; dearly loved grandchildren, Evan Shields, Emma Sherer, Ellery Shields, Erin Holland, Sydnee Payne and Morgan Payne; among other loved ones and dear friends.
Her funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Saturday, April 9 at 1 P.M. with Father Anthony and Father George officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Barbourville Cemetery.
Casket bearers will be members of her family.
The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to Brian Abner and staff of the Barbourville Family Health Center and staff at the University of Kentucky Medical Center for their excellent care.
Friends may call at the funeral home Friday between 6 and 9 P.M. and Saturday prior to the funeral hour.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Knox Funeral Home.
