Mr. Johnny Lee Cornett, 71, of Barbourville, passed away Thursday morning, April 30, 2020 at the Barbourville ARH Hospital. He was the son of the late Milburn Cornett and Loucretia Smith Cornett Sturgill born on March 6, 1949 at Pine Mountain.
Johnny was a former laborer and enjoyed fishing and hunting. He faithfully served his country in the United States Army.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Dottie Sutton and four brothers, Harold, Homer, Burchell and Leslie Cornett.
Survivors include his fiancé, Margie Ballew; four children, Tamela Cornett and Earl, Johnny Cornett Jr. and wife, Kay, David Cornett and wife, Deanna, and Megan Cornett and Danny; three sisters, Joyce Coots, Janet Baker and husband, David, and Janice Merrill; two brothers, Harlan Cornett and Roger Cornett and wife, Debbie; nine grandchildren, Ryan, Shane, Leighton, Taran, Bailee, Brynlee, Brody, Sofie and Aubrey; future mother-in-law, Ruth Ballew; among other loved ones and dear friends.
A private family funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Tuesday, May 5 with Rev. Clayton Baker officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Barbourville Cemetery.
Casket bearers will be Earl Lawson, Danny Collins, Johnny Cornett Jr., David Cornett, David Baker and Leighton Cornett.
A drive-thru visitation will be held at the funeral home Tuesday between 12:00 and 1:30 P.M. For your safety, we ask that you remain in your vehicle.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Knox Funeral Home.
