Obituary for John Henry Clark (1922-2021)

Barbourville, Ky. – John Henry Clark, 98, of Flat Lick, passed away Tuesday, October 19, 2021, at Barbourville ARH.  He was the son of Maude Jones Clark Tye and John Clark, Sr. born on October 27, 1922. He was married to Hazel Juanita Clark for forty years and they shared three children together.

John served in the US Army during World War II and was honorably discharged and awarded two medals in 1945.  During his spare time, John enjoyed farming and gardening.  He received his call after hearing the voice of God saying, “John Now”, after which he become a minister of the Gospel for forty-five years at Thankful Baptist Church in Middlesboro, Kentucky.  He was a pastor, teacher, advisor, and a true and dedicated spiritual believer in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ through the Holy Spirit.  He believed the word and the word abided in him.  The legacy that he left was Love and the Holy Spirit.

In addition to his parents, Maude Jones Clark Tye and John Clark, Sr., he was preceded in death by his brother Jack Clark and his loving wife of forty years Hazel Juanita Clark. 

He is survived by three children: Lavona Marsha’ Clark, Wendell Lynn Clark (Crustacia), and Mark Anthony Clark (Amanda); seven grandchildren Latosha Hoskins (Dustin), Breonna Clark, Amber Clark, Mya Clark, Marcus Clark, Jayla Richardson, and Jasmine James (Antonio); two nieces Jacqueline Parks and Melodie Thompson; sister-in-law Imajean McCowan; cousins Geradine Mays, Ed White, Jr., Shirley, Peggy and Mayme Wallace; and best friend Ernest Thompson.

Visitation for Pastor John H. Clark will be Saturday, October 23, 2021, from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Hopper Funeral Home and on Sunday, October 24, 2021, from 12:00 PM until the funeral hour of 2:00 PM at Hopper Funeral Home.  Pastor Mark A. Clark, a beloved son of Johns, will officiate.  Burial will follow the funeral service at the Rosenwald Cemetery in Barbourville.  Pallbearers are Deacon Jesse Simpson, Ricky Tinsley, Felton Tinsley, Melton Tinsley, Dustin Hopkins, Nathan Gambrel, Jason Gambrel, Ted Hobbs, and William Rogers.  Honorary Pallbearers are Women Ministers of Thankful Baptist Church.
