Mr. Joe Samuel “J. S.” Callihan, 82, of Baughman, passed away Saturday afternoon, October 17, 2020 at the Highlands ARH Regional Medical Center in Prestonsburg. He was the son of the late Joe Butler and Lola Smith Callihan born on January 12, 1938 in Knox County.
He made his home with his mother, father and sister, Carrie Collins. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior and became a member of the Barbourville Church of God. He and his sister were avid Kentucky basketball fans and could no doubt be heard to US 25 E cheering on their team. They both dearly loved their animals.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Carrie Collins and three brothers, Arnold, Kenneth and Jim Callihan.
Survivors include two sisters, Sallie Smith of Seven Mile, OH and Bobbie Callihan Jones of Girdler; a sister-in-law, Esther Callihan of Michigan; several nieces and nephews, Pat Hensley, Barbara Gambrel, Billie Jo McVey, Janie Bargo, Carolyn Siegel, Laura Musgrave, James Smith, Billy Wayne Smith, Ronnie Dale Smith, Kenny Callihan, Steve Callihan, Harold “Rastus” Jones and Sammy Jones; among other loved ones and dear friends.
His funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Thursday, October 22 at 2 P.M. with Pastor David Barnard officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Scalf Cemetery.
Casket bearers will be family and friends.
Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday after 11 A.M. until the funeral hour.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Knox Funeral Home.
