Mrs. Joann Smith, 73, of Elam Branch, passed away Wednesday morning, July 14, 2021 at the UK Bluegrass Hospice Care Center in Lexington. She was the daughter of the late Ellis and Mary Sasser Smith born on January 29, 1948 at Jarvis.
Joann was a homemaker and a long-time member of the New Bethel Baptist Church. She enjoyed tending flowers, gardening, working in the yard and especially spending time with and taking care of her family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Francis Smith and three brothers, Jerry Lee Smith, Ellis Junior Smith II and Clifford Smith.
Survivors include her loving husband, Roy R. Smith of Elam Branch; two children, Ruby Jewell Smith of Elam Branch and Mary Lynn Collins and William Paul McDonald of Flat Lick; a sister, Betty Jean Jones and husband, Steve, of Florence; two brothers, Donnie Ray Smith and Jeffrey Smith and wife, Mary, all of Cranes Nest; a treasured grandson, Kyle Taylor Collins and wife, Brianna; among other loved ones and dear friends.
Her funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Sunday, July 18 at 2 P.M. with Rev. Lonnie Collett, Rev. Brian Hacker and Rev. Randy Johnson officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Smith Cemetery.
Casket bearers will be family and friends.
Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday after 12 Noon until the funeral hour.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Knox Funeral Home.
